Look at not just the overall API but also the similar scores ranking. That will tell you if a school is doing better or worse than others with similar student demographics. Fox has a similar schools ranking of 6,Education Information. which means it does about average (60th percentile) compared to schools with similar demographics. Cipriani, which has an API only a bit lower than Fox (895) has a similar schools ranking of 2, legal advice online placing it in the bottom 20% compared to schools with similar demographics. And Green Hills in Millbrae has a virtually identical API to Fox (909) but a similar schools ranking of 10, placing it in the top 10% compared to its peers.
Is there a way to quantify how good a school is by combining the two ratings? or simply looking at the API sufficient?

Based on the API scores, schools are assigned API growth targets. These performance metrics are also available for various student subgroups. Schools also receive rankings one comparing similar schools and another comparing all schools in the state.
